Efficient building funding: heat recovery in the foreground for the BEG

The German government’s funding programme for efficient buildings (BEG) offers homeowners and builders attractive opportunities to improve the energy efficiency of their properties. In particular, ventilation systems with heat recovery (HRV) benefit from the funding programmes and are considered an essential component of modern renovation and construction projects. But what exactly makes the BEG funding so advantageous, and how can you benefit from it?

Funding programmes for ventilation systems

The BEG includes various programmes that support both individual measures (BEG EM) and holistic renovations (BEG WG):

  1. BEG EM – individual measures:
    • Basic funding of 15% for ventilation systems.
    • An additional 5% if an individual renovation roadmap is used.
    • Perfect for smaller renovation projects or the gradual improvement of energy efficiency.
  2. BEG WG – Holistic Renovation:
    • For the EE class, the integration of ventilation with heat recovery is mandatory.
    • Higher eligible costs (up to €150,000) and a better interest rate (e.g. 1.13% for 10 years in October 2024).
    • Particularly relevant for comprehensive renovations that are designed to deliver sustainable results.

Benefits of ventilation systems with heat recovery

The obligation to integrate heat recovery in the EE class shows the importance of this technology. Ventilation systems with heat recovery offer numerous advantages:

  • Energy savings: By recovering up to 90% of the heat from the exhaust air, heating costs can be significantly reduced.
  • Improved indoor air quality: Pollutants and humidity are effectively removed, preventing mould growth and protecting health.
  • Sustainability: Heat recovery systems help to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings and reduce energy costs in the long term.

The way a heat exchanger works is therefore designed to use the available heat energy and apply it where it is needed. This process not only contributes to energy efficiency, but also enables the sustainable and resource-saving use of heat in various applications. A key technology on the road to the heating transition is fan-assisted domestic ventilation with heat recovery (HRV), as announced by the Fachgemeinschaft für effiziente Energieanwendung e.V. / HEA in this press release. A study by the ITG (Institut für Technische Gebäudeausrüstung Dresden) et al. for the VfW shows how highly efficient this technology is. A building’s heating load is reduced by an average of 25%. Decentralised ventilation units from Ventomaxx with heat recovery are available in the series WRG RONDO, WRG PLUS and WRG MAKANI® R / Q. They stand for high-quality, decentralised ventilation comfort with extremely energy-efficient heat recovery and with well above-average protection against outside noise.

A look at real-world examples: holistic renovations

The figures from the BEG funding show an increasing acceptance:

  • In 2023, around 60% of renovations were carried out with EE technologies.
  • Ventilation systems with heat recovery play a key role in meeting the requirements in the EE class.

Example calculation for the renovation of a residential building (WPB) to meet the standards of an Efficiency House 55:

  • Total funding: 30% (for eligible costs of €150,000).
  • Additional benefit: interest rate stability and long-term savings through energy efficiency.

Why act now?

The combination of BEG funding and modern ventilation technology is a turning point for energy-efficient construction. Especially for homeowners who want to future-proof their properties, heat recovery systems in combination with funding programmes such as BEG WG are a clear advantage.

Take the opportunity to make your property not only more efficient, but also healthier and more sustainable – while benefiting from the financial incentives of the BEG.

The use of heat exchangers in decentralised ventilation systems significantly increases energy efficiency by making optimal use of indoor heat. By combining warm and cold airflows, not only is air quality improved, but it also allows for flexible adjustment to the specific requirements of a building.

Thanks to this technology, operating costs can be reduced while also making an important contribution to environmental protection. Heat exchangers contribute to optimal energy savings and improve the indoor climate, making them an indispensable component of modern ventilation systems.
